6. TARGOBANK Run cancelled.
Recently the organizer of the popular annual Duisburg TargoBank Run, which was scheduled to take place on August 26th, 2010, the TARGO Dienstleistungs GmbH, called this year’s event off. Due to the cancelation, it will not be possible for metapeople and metaapes to repeat their performances of previous years.
The organizers explained their decision on the website http://www.unser-unternehmen-laeuft.de:
"Everybody was shocked by the tragic events at the Love Parade. The site of the accident in Duisburg is not far away from the TARGOBANK service center on the Harry-Epstein-Platz. Many had joined the festivities themselves, or have relatives, acquaintances or friends who took part.
During the last week, all upcoming events in the city were cancelled out of consideration for the feelings of the victim’s families. As organizers of the Duisburg TARGOBANK Run scheduled for the 26th of August, we have also extensively discussed how to can respond appropriately to the tragedy.
The decision was not easy for us. In recent years, our corporate run has more and more developed into a festival and we as a company feel a strong bond to the people of Duisburg. The run by now is a fixture on many company’s schedule, and many are looking forward to to participate and celebrate with their colleagues afterwards. However, we felt that it is too soon to stage a festival in the city. The grief is still to present and one has not yet recovered from the shock. Out of respect for the victims, we therefore decided to cancel this year’s Duisburg TARGOBANK run.
We will compete again next year to continue the fine tradition of this run. We apologize for any inconvenience this decision may cause. Regardless of the cancellation of the run, the TARGOBANK will support various social institutions. We will provide further information about that shortly."
